Guy Marks: "Loving You Has Made Me Bananas"
As mentioned earlier, I've been transferring alot of my analogue media into digital form. My childhood best buddy, Michael Nichols, and I used to make a habit out of trading mix tapes. I'm sure anyone who has a remote interest in reading or maintaining music blogs shares that hobby.
Anyway, one of the goofiest songs he ever put on there was a ditty called "Loving You Has Made Me Bananas" by an entertainer/comedian named Guy Marks who cranked out this one-hit-wonder. It appears from the various shout outs on the web that this song is exceedingly difficult to find since all the records it was ever published on are now out of print, so I feel it is my civic duty to upload this tune for the masses. The lyrics are definitely funny and we might as well another one to add to the ear worm bin....the only problem is that the recording I have clearly mentions someone by the name of Dickie Ryan providing vocals. Does anyone have any more information on this?

This song was released in 1968 so I doubt Guy Marks has a Myspace, but there is plenty of information out on his acting and comedic contributuions.

OH MY. That reminds me of my dad. He used to sing that to me when I was a kid!
:(
When I click on the link to the track, I get:
Error (500)
Fri Sep 29 20:06:04 EDT 2006 java.io.IOException: There is not enough space on the disk
It works now... this song is brilliant!!! I wish the recording was better.
Nat, your dad really sung to you? That's hiliarious!
I get really annoyed with ezarchive...it is so unstable, but I paid for my subscription, so I keep using it.
Shawn, the recording was orginally from an LP to tape and then transferred to mp3 which is why it is so crappy.
THis is great, I was just telling my son about this recording tonite. I have the 45 somewhere in storage. Do you also have the introduction to the beginning of this song that you can post in sound as well?
Thanks!
Jim M.
And now, from the Monagahela River, One mile high, 2 1/2 blocks from the center of Old New Orleans....
Hi Jim, I don't have the full intro since my copy came from a mix tape from a buddy. It just has a little bit about Dicky Robinson providing vocals and that's it. Surely someone out there has the whole recording, but it seems scarce!
Hi Folks - I'll fill in the blanks on this one. Guy Marks - known as the "Comedian's Comedian" to some, the Godfather of Alternative Comedy to others, wrote this parody of old Big Band era stuff in the 1960s, & subsequently found himself circa 1978 enjoying a hit single in Britain, including two appearences on the (then) prestigious "Top Of The Pops" show - no mean feat in those Punk era & "Grease" days! Dickie (as in "Dickie The Duckie", ie. someone who is gay) was just one of his personas on the record, he did indeed sing the whole thing. He was tickled that people would swear blind years later that it really an old Big Band number he had "covered", & that it became of the best known "Big Band" tunes around!
...& oh, by the way...

Good evening ladies and gentlemen, coming to you from the Hotel Sheets Ballroom near the center of of downtown Pottstown; one mile high,2 1/2 blocks from thecenter of old New Orleans.....
Ah, there's gaity, music and laughter from the Hotel Sheets nightly.....
Presenting Pete DeAngelis and the Orchestra. Join us now as Pete and his Royal Bandidos play a medley of old favorites, including etc.
This is how I remember the intro! Guy Marks was a hoot. Up until the early 70's, station WWL in New Orleans used to put on a nightly radio show, with Leon Kellner and the Orchestra, featuring the vocal stylings of Miss Patricia Arnell (aka Patty Ann Ragusa.)
It was corny alright, but at least it had the intimacy of live performance, and all the problems of the music's high-wire act.
I miss it.
And thanks for the transcription to the intro anon.
Oh AWESOME Mike. Thank you so much!
I'll be sure to post the wmv file in the near future. Wow! THis is the first time i've ever seen it. Thanks again.
Thank you for posting this! My grandfather used to sing it to us, and now my mom's picked up the torch...
I've been looking for it after a particularly batty Thanksgiving kitchen performance...
Thanks for sharing that, Emily. I'm really surprised that this song isn't on any currently in-print albums...this is the post/song that gets the most hits in this blog and for many the song holds happy memories.

My grandfather used to sing this to me... it brings back the smell of his pipe and of him...
That song has happy memories for me too! By the way, I uploaded the video, in the post here:

What a hoot! I have no idea where/when I originally heard that song, but I did have the 45..back in the day.
I also did some kind of dance to it in our dorm hall. It was wierd, but it was my signature dance.
Video is cool too.
Stiles just played that song on his show on WNYC, NPR. Maybe on his lite there is a clue as how to find the whole recording? God knows he has EVERY song EVER.
Hi there! I've got a wma file of the complete 2+min version of the song, including the intro speech. It sounds clear too. If anyone's interested, just drop me a message on my blog with your email and I'll send the file over! =)
